It is a city localize in the south west of Finland and it is the sixth city of the country. Turku, formerly Abo, was the capital of Finland, before the Russian choose Helsinki during the war between Russia and Sweden.

Turku was a big city during the Middle age. The cathedral of Turku was inaugurating in 1300. Turku was considered as a religious and commercial centre during Middle-Age.

During its history Turku was the theatre of few occupation whether by the Russian or Swedish. It also knew some ware during century. In XVIII century the city grew up and the industrial development stared. Turku was the first tabaco manufacturer. The beginning of the naval construction permitted to city to expand it further. There was also an increasing of the science during this century with the building of the first botanic garden and laboratory.

In 1827, there was a big fire who ravages the city and more two thirds were destroyed. This big fire is burned for two days. After that the architecture plan have been entrusted with Carl Ludwig Engel, who was German architect and painter. The city centre is still built according to architect’s plans. After the fire the most important Admirative building were transferred to Helsinki and Turku lost little by little its importance.

In XIX century, Turku is rebuilt and become the Romantic Turku due to the Fennomaniacal movement.

During the first part of the XX century, the Turku Independence declaration was signed but brief time after a civil war breaks out and Turku is under the Russian administrative.

During the second world war Turku is under occupation of USSR and suffer of the bombing attack by USSR.

Turku has experienced some history and I am glade to come in this city because its history is interesting. I live in the first Finland’s capital.
