In Turku there are lot of university and lot of exchange student. I share the flat with two other girls and none of us go to the same university. I think the student life in Turku is easier than student life in Helsinki. I talked with other French exchange student who come from Helsinki, and for them it was hard for them to find a place in Helsinki. They had to find by themselves and it was expensive. They live in the countryside of Helsinki. For me, find a place it was stressful, but I found it one month and half before I leave my home. But an organisation helps exchange student or student to find a place and it call TYS, it is a good organisation but when I did my subscription, I did not understand how the site works.
Finally, I found it and my place is cool and I am not alone there. Basically, I would like to live in the student village, but it was full, and it is so much better like this. I really like my flat and I have the biggest room (it is cool).
Before to come in Finland I read lot of forum and article about the student life in Turku, and in one of them, a woman said she lost weight because she walks a lot in Turku. That is how I found out my new resolution for my semester, and if you do not guess yet, my new resolution it was to do more sport. And I success it thanks to the sport subscription with the university. I paid 44 $ for one semester and I could go in every sport I want, I just may book some class before because they were appreciating, and some people went there.
If you are hungry you can go to the cafeteria Unica near to the main sport building and you can eat for 2,60 € if you have your student card. I ate often there after my library day, after sport or simply because I was to lazy to cook in my home. The meal was diversifying, and you can take a big or small portion. And I could discover some Finnish dishes like the peas soup. I have a little appetite and I saw some people with a plat full to the brim, I was funny because the put the main meal with salad in the same plate.
And an Erasmus or University is nothing without the student organisation. And this one, it is very cool because they organise some travel (like Lapland Trip) during the Erasmus and the help when you have problem. And they are always present during each event!!
