Aurora Borealis

When I choose to go to Finland, I really want to see the Aurora Borealis or also called Northern Light. For the country on the north the Aurora symbolises a shield. But this phenomenon has different meaning. I am big Disney fan and in one of them “Brother Bear” we can see the Aurora, and, in this case, they represent the ancestor spirit. And for me they represent the magic of nature. For the fisherman if there are northern light it might be a sign of an abundant fishing according to the guide during the Lapland Trip.

A little point of science: How the aurora borealis are formed ??

There are formed after collision between electrically charged solar particles upon entering the earth’s atmosphere, which results in emissions of various colours of light. There is some colour for the Aurora but the most common is green, there are also: pink, red, blue, yellow. This phenomenon

About the legend: Fire Fox

The Finnish name for the Northern Lights, “revontulet”, meaning “fox fire”, derives from this myth.

In Sámi folklore, the Auroras are caused by a fox running over the fells and whipping up snow with its tail and sending sparks up the northern sky. These sparks form a colourful arc of fire that lights up the dark sky.
